New Self-Defense Classes

Written by Danny Valle
Tuesday, 31 January 2012

This past Saturday, January 28th, we had our Self-Defense seminar at the Levittown academy (see photos below). This seminar introduced a few essential self-defense techniques that everyone should know. We had a full house and the feedback was fantastic! This seminar was also the prelude to our new self-defense class we are offering.

Beginning March 1st, the Serra BJJ academy will be offering "Essential Self-Defense" classes. These adult classes include self defense-oriented techniques for hand-to-hand combat situations that are common in street fights. Whether you are a 5-foot-tall woman or a much larger man, these techniques are essential to surviving an attack and decreasing potential injury.

Using a combination of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai Kickboxing – two major components seen in today's mixed martial arts competitions – you will build the foundation you need to deal with common positions and attacks that you may encounter during a fight, including chokes, headlocks, bear hugs, etc.

If you are looking to get started in a martial art designed with self-defense in mind, these classes and our academy are perfect for you. We offer a fun and comfortable training atmosphere with a long history of producing great martial artists and fighters.

Get started today! Give us a call or fill out the information below.

Congrats to Frank Spano on receiving his blue belt last night at East Meadow Academy. Frank began his training as a wrestler and has made the transition to Jiu-Jitsu very well.

Also, Ring of Combat Champion Al Iaquinta received his purple belt. Al has been training his jiu-jitsu very hard and it shows on the mats. If you saw his last two fights, as hard as he fights is has hard as he trains. Make sure you guys to come down to support Al on his upcoming fight on November 18th as he defends his Ring of Combat title!

Kru Alex Palma Seminar

Saturday, 08 October 2011

Big thanks to Kru Alex Palma for conducting a fantastic seminar at our Serra BJJ Huntington academy this past Saturday, October 8. Over 45 students took the four-hour class, a great turnout for what was Serra BJJ’s very first Muay Thai kickboxing seminar.

Kru Alex's instruction is top-notch; it’s easy to see why he coaches elite fighters like the Nogueira brothers, Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo just to name a few. If you didn't get a chance to participate, you truly missed a great opportunity to learn from a champion veteran. But don't feel too bad, we plan on having Alex back soon.

In addition to the seminar, Kru Alex had a surprise for our very own James Gabert, Serra BJJ’s head Muay Thai instructor. James was promoted to the rank of Kru by Alex! In addition to his great work as an instructor, Kru James dedicates much of his time to training up-and-coming fighters in both kickboxing and MMA.

Don’t forget to check out the photos from the event and thanks once again to Kru Alex for a remarkable seminar.
