What do you think about the UFC cutting Paul Daley for sucker-punching Josh Koschek after the fight had ended? According to reports, during the fight Koschek was trash talking and baiting Daley.

Sure, the fight was over, and Daley should have tried to punch Koschek during the fight, and not after the fight. Yet, it seems rather harsh punishment, since the UFC could have heavily fined or suspended Daley. (Compare Daley's sucker punch with the antics of Brock Lesnar in UFC 100, in which Lesnar: (1) insulted the sponsor Bud Light; (2) continued to spew verbal attacks on Frank Mir; (3) made sexually explicit comment not suitable for children).

I am not sure how UFC contracts are worded, i.e. whether the fighters are considered "employees" or "independent contractors" of the UFC, but there may be grounds for Daley to appeal the cut.

p.s. what did you think about Mitrione v. Slice bout from BJJ standpoint?

personally i think dana made the right call. i agree with your point about the lesnar incident but as inappropriate as lesnars actions were cheap suckerpunches were never part of it. especially after the brawl that erupted on strikeforce after shields v henderson dana, the ufc, and the entire mma community has to be incredibly careful not to give the anti-mma community any more ammunition. they are working incredibly hard to legitimize this sport and allthough these "brawls" break out in pratically every major sport(baseball, hockey, football, baskeball), untill this sport has reached the same level of legitimacy this kind of behavior simply cant be tollerated. as far as kimbo vs mitrione from a bjj standpoint. i was blown away with meathead. i was expecting kimbo to take advantage of what ithought was mitrionse lack of ground game. kimbo really impressed me with his improved bjj game against houston alexander and i expected him to use that against mitrione. when it turned into meathead going for triangles allthough with awful technique(touching heel to knee, looking into the ear, etc) i was blown away with the effort.

Come on man, you can't compare what Daley did to what Lesnar did. You said his comment was not suitable for children but what children are watching UFC fights? I think Koscheck should be released because of that terrible acting when he clearly did not get hit by that knee.

i think that daley should definitely be cut from the UFC. I agree with what was said earlier that the Brock situation was different because he didn't get physical after the fight ended. Also you have to look back at why Babalu was cut from the UFC. He purposely held onto a choke after the his opponent (David Heath maybe???) clearly tapped. I believe Nick Diaz was cut from the UFC for post fight aggression as well. Dana didn't tolerate it then and wont tolerate it now and its a good thing cause it shows he wont play favorites (being that he has said on many occasions that he likes Nick Diaz).

Paul Daley should be punished but cutting him altogether may be a little harsh.

Paul Daley did a terrible thing and I do not condone it. However, let the Athletic Commission decide his fate as they do all infractions against the rules. Suspension, fine even a required passing grade from an anger management course would be justice enough. Kicking out one of the best 170 pounders from the only place he can test his skills against the world’s best is an injustice to the fans who want to see the best fight the best.

Why do Athletic Commissions govern over infractions if Dana White is going to punish as he sees fit? Dana is giving Paul Daley the RVCA treatment at this point in time. Upset and making rash decisions is what he is known for. I only hope just as he let RVCA back he comes to his senses in this situation.

I think he makes some good points

The Athletic Commission governs over the fights themselves; however, not the UFC as a whole. That is still Dana White's territory.

The Athletic Commission could still suspend Daley for his actions and prevent him from fighting for a year or whatever they want to do. Dana White just doesn't want that behavior in his cage. I can't blame Dana White either. The man is trying to get MMA legalized in states where it is not. States that have politicians that say MMA is human cock-fighting. How is MMA going to move forward if we see brawls in the cage after the fights. It just going to look more barbarous and out of control. That is not the type of publicity that you want when trying to promote a sport. Talking is one thing, needless brawls are another.

BJPenn.com quotes the fact that fights happen in baseball. Baseball is an already established national past time thats legal around the globe. I think the comparison is apples and oranges.

I commend Dana for having strict rules of conduct and forcing his fighters to live by them. Just think next time you roll, what if my opponent randomly hip-tosses me after a match that you won...I'm sure whoever is in charge would make sure that person is disciplined
