Well, being back at the gym, training and completely out of shape from a year hiatus. I find myself exhausted and slightly shakey during/after training (I realize this will improve the more I train, but in the mean time...). I've only been on the mats twice now, but each time I literly drop a couple pounds from water loss. I drink a couple bottle of water during class to stay hydrated, but I need something for after.

Can anyone recommend some sort of bar, or drink for post-workout (or both)? Typically I don't get to eat dinner prior to class, so I eat when I return home. While lately it has been a lot of fish and chicken, I need something in between the gym and dinner.

Thanks!

Welcome back from your hiatus. Your body will remember and just get on the mats and train. As far as the shakiness during training make an effort to make sure you are not holding your breath or burning your grips out. Part of our training is finding out what food works for us as each of us reacts differently. I eat bananas pre and post training and I know someone that eats applesauce pre-training as it is easy on the stomach. Coconut water is perfect for bjj folks.
Ask your training peers and get some ideas from them as well. Billy Ho's site has lots of great information along those lines also. Best of luck.
