Hey all,
It's long overdue that I joined. When Matt reads this he'd probably agree. I retired from Suffolk PD in 2003 and moved to FL in 2006. I spent a "blink of the eye" on the mat before my on the job injuries forced my retirement. I had a great time in the "old days", going to Matt's early fights in NJ & Vegas, with a few other 2nd Pct guys and our girls. My oldest son started training at 12 yrs old and trained at the Huntington academy right up to the week we moved. I can't thank Matt & Nicky enough for what they taught my son. Being the new kid in HS at 17 yrs old, the rednecks tested him until he made a big jock go nite-nite in the HS commons. Aside from technique, he learned so much more from all the adults at Serra BJJ (not many kids trained then).
Even though the family has been in FL since '06, we still have that Serra-pride. We're all so happy for Matt's success. I know I shoulda' kept in touch, but I'm a lazy, retired guy.
Me, Gina, l'il Frankie botz, and Christian congratulate you, and wish you the best, brother. Regards to Nicky and Papa Serra.
BTW - Christian is 10 now. There's an ATT school near here, but he still remembers rolling with Matt after class, and wants to go back to NY to train at a Serra academy.
There's the newbies story. Best to all at Serra BJJ. I still rock my worn-out tees down here. Kick a$$ at 119! God bless, brother.
