I think the next Olympics is being held in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

What are the chances that BJJ may become an olympic sport in the future? Currently, Judo, and Tae Kwon Do are medal sports.

Also, anyone know if BJJ is as popular as soccer in Brazil?

The host of the Olympics is allowed to enter an "exhibition" sport to be tried out during the Olympics. And since soccer and beach volley ball are already in the Olympics I could not see Brazil entering anything else other then our beloved BJJ.

I've read that there needs to be at least 70 practicing nations to qualify a sport for the olympics.

I have always been puzzled as to why beach volley ball is an olympic sport, especially when there is regular volleyball.

If so, there should be olympic status for:
Sambo (assuming it meets 70 country requirement, as said by one commentator)
Karate
BJJ

along with tae kwon do and judo.

That would be amazing if it passed and would surpass all other tournaments simply based on the popularity of the Olympic games...

And the answer is NO to BJJ being more popular than soccer in Brazil... In Brazil soccer is more of a religion. I been there and my father was born and raised there.
