There have been some big grappling tournaments over the past few weeks and we have some great news to report about our competition team. We are also in the process of planning a separate program geared for our students who compete. We are confident that this will only help our competition team to grow stronger.
The Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling World Championships took place on September 26th and 27th in Barcelona, Spain. Our very own Chris Weidman participated in the tournament after winning the ADCC trials a few months ago in convincing fashion.
Chris' first match was against the #1 ranked grappler from Spain. Since the tournament was in Spain, he was a crowd favorite but Weidman managed to win the match 19-0! Chris found himself up against one of the best grapplers in the world in Andre Galvao for his second match. Although Weidman lost the match 4-0 he certainly made a statement that he belongs competing with the best grapplers in the world. Weidman was the aggressor in the match, throwing Galvao numerous times from the clinch and coming close on several submission attempts. Congrats to Chris on a great showing!

Also, the No Gi Pan Jiu-Jitsu tournament took place on October 3rd in NYC and Team Serra was definitely represented. Two highlights were Eric Sherman taking first place in the purple belt division and Danny Carroll winning the gold in the blue belt masters division. A huge congrats goes to these guys as well as everyone else who competed and/or placed.
